Cops say the young girl had suspected her former tuition teacher was stalking her and stopped greeting him on the street; the latter went to her house and attempted suicide
An 18-year-old girl watched in horror as her former tuition teacher slashed his throat with a knife at her Vakola residence on Friday afternoon. Manoj Sharma, a resident of Gaondevi, Vakola, had tutored the girl while she was studying in school. Police said that the 30-year-old tuition teacher, who is also employed as a storekeeper in a five-star hotel, went to the girl's residence in Vakola and slit his throat several times in front of the girl and her mother. While the tutor has been admitted to Nair Hospital where he is , cops suspect that it could be a one-sided affair.

According to cops, the girl had enrolled for tuitions with Sharma, as she was a resident from the same area. After completing her school education five years back, she would always smile at her tuition teacher, and exchange pleasantries whenever they crossed each other’s path in the area. Sharma would always ask about her wellbeing and enquire about her studies. However, lately the girl started ignoring Sharma, as she thought that he was following her on a few occasions.
Feeling spurned and humiliated, Sharma arrived at the girl’s house screaming and shouting on Friday. “Sharma was drunk when he arrived at the house. He had a knife in his hand and poison bottle in his pocket, which he had purchased in the morning. As the girl saw Sharma she got terrified when he shouted, “You think that I am behind you and roam around you. That is completely wrong” and then he slit his throat and collapsed to the ground,” said Kissan Shirshat, sub-inspector at Vakola police station.
Police rushed Sharma to a local hospital, but later shifted him to Nair Hospital due to his critical condition. “We have registered a case against him under Section 309 (attempt to commit suicide) under IPC. Due to his serious condition we have been unable to record his statement, but will be talking to his relatives to further our investigations,” a cop said.u00a0
