Truckers' strike: State may impose ESMA

The state cabinet will be held at 2 pm today to discuss about measures to be taken in view of the truckers' strike. The cabinet will explore the possibilities of imposing Esma (Essential Commodities Maintenance Act) as the truckers' strike has caused the shortage of essential commodities like vegetables, oil, etc.

The state government had warned the truck operators of stern action if they hampered the supply of essential commodities in the state.

Minister for Transport A R Ashok has said that the government will not hesitate to take any action under law if the strike by the truckers affects public.
