And for our money, nothing can get as bad-ass as Vir Das on his latest video ‘ Troll 101,’ in which one of our favourite funny men pretty much lays it in to that particularly Indian aspect of internet users: ‘its army of trolls’.

Ridiculing, abusing, insulting and offending them, Das adds insult to injury and then some - sparing no bon mot to take on the odious creatures.

“Face is an egg, your mouth is a gutter, your fingers are ready to go and your desperate need for attention that you would never get through your own achievements - is firmly in place,” he sneers at one point. Respect.

Pitch perfect shopping extravaganza
Our 21 minute 33 second sortie into Design One, that cornucopia of carefully curated two-day festive shopping extravaganza yesterday, was highly successful. In its sixth year, the brainchild of a group of enterprising SoBo ladies, wives of leading industrialists, appears to be bigger and better this year.

Being hopeless at visiting a single shop, leave alone hundreds of them in one go, we felt a twinge of trepidation before we entered, but once in, we spotted so many friends – Kavita Singh, Gauri Pohoomal, Krishna Mehta, Anjali Mariwala, Reshma Mehta, Parul Choksi, and finally Shobhaa De as we were leaving, we didn’t know whether our head was spinning from the beautiful wares we’d seen or the beautiful people we’d air kissed.

Unlike its other two competitors, (the fuddy duddy one and the glam sham one) the Design One retail extravaganza treads the middle path and thus is pitch perfect. The ladies we saw were fashionable enough to appreciate the goods but also wealthy enough to buy them. “Some of the top boutique owners of Mumbai come here to discover new designers,” said Pohoomal. And then we lost her in the crowds...

Horn OK Please
Readers of this column will remember, a couple of months ago- when we had written about chef Gaggan Anand’s adventures with a food truck, the last time he was in Mumbai for a pop-up.

The innovative chef had told us, that ever since he watched the movie Chef, it had been his dream to man such a contraption, and he had even managed to rope in actor Imran Khan to cook with him in his mobile kitchen (though after what we saw of Katti Batti, it’s more like his own goose was cooked).

Now word comes in that others too have been influenced by the movie, and Mumbai will soon see not one but two food trucks driving around its busy streets.

The Bombay Food Truck

The first is The Bombay Food Truck started by restaurateur Ashish Sajnani, which will soon start operations in Lower Parel serving local dishes like keema pav, and the second truck about town is the The Lalit Food Truck Company, which has been pioneered by the young Keshav Suri (the enterprising son of the late Lalit Group honcho Lalit Suri) which is said to serve Mexican food. Fancy a gourmet meal? Just go truckin.

Return of The Gaggan
His return is akin to the second coming, especially now that the Great Gaggan comes back to Mumbai at the beginning of next month after being named the best chef in the world for the year.

And as usual there will be a series of dinners where the ponytailed wonder from Bangkok, will use the dint of his imagination and his approach of madcap adventurism to conjure up new and exciting dishes. First off, a dinner by the Times of India and then two nights for American Express’ Platinum Card Holders.

Oh wait, one more dinner might occur. The historic one where Chef Floyd Cardoz and Chef Gaggan had promised to cook together – the serendipitous outcome of something we’d written on these pages, gentle reader.
Forks and knives to the ready!

A dog’s tale
Who says Mumbai doesn’t have a heart? Our attention was drawn to a friend’s timeline, which this past week had engaged readers in a story as edifying as any you’d find. A resident of Churchgate, our friend had discovered a handsome but lost pup in her neighborhood.

After checking for medical and other needs the lady took the dog in, affording it a home and tender loving care, all the while making a concerted effort to find the dog’s owners. Finally, she gave up, sadly admitting that it looked like a case of abandonment.

Hardly letting that faze her, she then began asking around if someone would adopt the adorable creature, speaking lovingly of its qualities of gentleness and affection and this nurturing reached its crescendo with an expensive shampooing and grooming session at her own expense.

And here’s the happy ending. ‘Our gorgeous guest of last week went to his forever home yesterday!’ posted the lady last evening. ‘he was adopted by a loving family who opened up their home and their hearts for him. I will miss him to death, but am feeling so lucky, grateful and blessed!’ she said, adding, ‘Here he is, coming home from the vet this morning in his new car.’ Awww.

Now you see them, now you don’t
As expected, the marriage of this flashy Middle East-based couple has come unstuck. Our favourite party girl had alerted us to some unusual activity on the couple’s timelines: not only were they looking curiously younger with each passing snap thanks to a healthy regard for Botox, but they were also increasingly apart or without each other in the pix. What’s more, Mr Flash was er flashing pics of himself with an alarming array of ‘actresses’ and showgirls.

“He’d married her for her glamour and her inside track in to Mumbai show biz and to start with, he was completely besotted,” said OFPG, “but he’s now giving indications of being single and ready to mingle, apparently dating the sister of a well known Mumbai socialite! And to think you could see things unravelling on their Facebook pages,” said OFPG profoundly. “Shucks.”
