Citing security reasons, a ban was imposed on entry of vehicles of litigants and those visiting the Shivajinagar court, apart from judges, lawyers, and the court staff, starting yesterday.

In addition, the traffic police department proposed to start ‘pay and park’ system for court visitors on the open space in front of the court on Sancheti Road. Moreover, the traffic police have also restricted parking of private vehicles along compound walls.

Though the Pune Bar Association (PBA) agreed that vehicles of those visiting the court should not be allowed to park on the court premises, it strongly opposed the idea of pay and park.

“For security purposes, litigants and other visitors will have to park their vehicles outside the court’s gate. But we can’t allow implementation of the pay and park system,” PBA president Rajendra Umap said. “It has been discovered that employees from some companies and shops located in the vicinity park their vehicles on the court premises.

He said the PBA has already prepared special stickers that would be given to judges, lawyers, and the court staff, so that their vehicles could be distinguished and be allowed to park inside.

Inspector Nilam Jadhav of the Deccan and Shivajinagar traffic division said, “We have also proposed CCTV cameras in the parking lots and have submitted the proposal to the court administration.”
