It's a rough road to Cabana at Tivoli Grand, but once you've trodden it, a soothing surprise awaits
If you have odd working hours or a habit of dining late, drive to Cabana on GT Karnal Road, which is open all day (and night) long. Theu00a0 live music is light, the du00e9cor simple yet soothing and the food, a welcome feast, whether for a meeting, party or romantic dinner. The approach does drive you mad, but the bites quite make up.
Warm in here: Once you're seated, the calm ambience takes over
Food
Just like its Chattarpur counterpart, the list of options here is vastu00a0-- a compilation of several cuisines. Though that's not necessarily a deciding factor when it comes to how great the food is, it's an intelligent mish-mash, considering its clientele that primarily consists of corporates and baaratis who stay at the hotel that's in the same premises. We started the evening with the vegetarian platter, and clubbed it with daal palak soup. Fresh and fiery. Especially the paneer ke sule. The crispness and aroma of the Oriental nibbles, too, stay on. So does the salt 'n' pepper tang. Meat munchers have loads to try out, like the mutton pakhtoon kebab or the continental corn fed chicken ala king (the dish doesn't taste as twisted as its name). Moving to the main course, the Kashmiri roganjosh, dilnasheen parda biryani, dum ka murg and Dal Grand Tivoli, their signature daal, top our recommendation list. Vegetarians won't go wrong with the Peshawri paneer. We wrapped the meal with a hearty portion of chocolate mousse; however, you can even try the rasmalai and kulfi faluda. Friends thought it good.
Drinks
They serve liquor, but only in private parties, because they claim the licence isn't in place. So how does it make it to party guests, we wonder. Anyway. there's enough to drink, like juices, iced tea, shorbas, jaljeera, lassi, aromatic teas and coffees. If at any point of time, you feel lost in the menu, you can call the friendly staff for assistance. The new, albeit still-awaited concoctions include rose martinis, love junk and seasonal fruit margaritas.
Ambience
It's a pain to drive to this place, because the highway remains clogged most of the time. But once you're seated, the calm ambience takes over and you don't really doubt your decision. Big fat low seating overlooks the lush green lawn. Its Mediterranean feel makes it ideal for a business lunch or a candlelit dinner. And there're live ghazal performances, for the diehards. All in all, Cabana is a real treat for those looking for fine dining on this highway stretch, and has the potential to turn into a preferred stopover option for those who frequent this route.
