New voice-data-video technology allows creation of virtual classroom on the television screen, thus enabling students and teachers to interact simultaneously

Engineering students can now get GRE, GMAT and TOEFL tutorials on their TV sets. Said Balasaheb Kadam, the chairman of the WICE NET organisation, which launched the Latur Pattern MHT-CET course on TV, "This is yet another milestone in IT network systems after IPTV, cable and DTH. This technology involves the clubbing of voice-data-video," he said.



The technology will allow students and teacher interact simultaneously in one virtual classroom in real time though they are separated by huge geographical distances.

Rs 5,000 is all a student is required to pay and he can receive the lessons in the comfort of his home.u00a0 The teacher who broadcasts the lecture need not be at a single location, while beaming the lectures.u00a0

In association with DiviNet Access Technologies Ltd, WICE Net has developed a real-time, interactive education system, which can made made available to students across the Maharashtra. "WISE EDU was first demonstrated at SSR College in Aurangabad and its dedicated bandwidth has been tested at US and South Africa.

Ninety per cent of the students who appear for GRE, GMAT and TOEFL are in the cities. This new technology will allow students in rural areas to compete as well," said Kadam.u00a0u00a0

Kadam has requested the office of the Governor of California to appoint a counselor, so students immigrating abroad can complete the formalities faster.
