What Miss Selfridge may be to a fashion freak, Beatport is to an electronic music enthusiast. It's a one-stop-shop to the latest and the most cutting-edge electronic dance music from around the world; a music sharing community by DJs for DJs. It is also a place where new talent is recognised and nurtured. And unlike other online stores like iTunes that pack in a variety of genres, Beatport specialises only in electronic dance music and its various sub-genres.

Not just anybody can be on Beatport
"The website has various rules regarding record labels that it chooses to tie up with in order to maintain quality of the music available for purchase on Beatport," says Nikhil Chinapa, co-founder of electronic dance music collective, Submerge (along with Hermit Sethi and DJ Pearl). Therefore, the guys at Submerge and Delhi-based electronic outfit, Jalebee Cartel have launched a contest for aspiring producers in the Indian EDM world that gives them a chance to get on the Beatport wagon. "Just as we tell DJs to not give up on their dreams, this time we are calling out to producers to create something they have always wanted to," adds Chinapa.
What do you have to do?
On Submerge's official website, the participants can download parts of the original Mirrors track released on Jalebee Cartel's latest album, One Point Nothing. After which, they are free to tweak it, layer it, change the tune, do what they want to it in order to give it a fresh sound. "It's like giving ingredients of Butter Chicken, but saying 'make it the way you like'," elaborates Chinapa. The winning producer will not only land himself with this tangible prize of being released on Beatport through DadA music, but he will directly become part of the Submerge DJ roster that is part of the line-up at gigs all over India. "For instance, a winner of a Sunburn Festival contest got a chance to play for one hour at the festival. This remix contest is a great way to recognise new talent." And as any EDM lover would know, very often a good remix of an average track sticks in the head better than the original the remix has a full shot of becoming a global smash hit!u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0
