It’s easily going to be the wedding of the decade, when Parth Jindal, son of Sangita and Sajjan Jindal, will marry Anushree Jasani, daughter of Uday and Nunu Jasani. Why so? Well, not only is the groom’s mother one of the foremost aesthetes of the country but the Jindals are the ones who’d raised the bar on destination weddings when they’d hosted their daughter Tanvi’s nuptials at the Villa Le Rose in Florence, an occasion that it is still talked about for its taste and style. Well, next month not only will some of India’s best and brightest jet off to Austria to celebrate the scion of JSW’s wedding but we hear no less than Enrique Iglesias, one of the most in demand international artists has been signed as one of the acts.

We don’t need no education
We couldn’t help smiling at Delhi-based JJ Vallaya’s recent tryst with education which proved once again why degrees don’t matter: the ace designer who has carved a niche for himself in the marriage market for his opulent creations had taken his daughter to NIFT yesterday for her to have a look at the campus and meet some senior faculty. So imagine his surprise when Vallaya, as he says, ‘blissfully sauntering down memory lane’ his past came knocking at his door. “Imagine my surprise when I was reminded about (and thereafter handed over) my graduation certificate which I had not collected for the last 25 years,” he remarked. Adding tongue firmly in chic “Proof that I am indeed a NIFT graduate must celebrate today.” Proving how irrelevant his degree had been to his ultimate success.

And the reason the anecdote made us smile was that the story reminded us of a certain other uncollected degree … gathering dust. At a Sobo college.

Magic up his sleeve
Great chefs are often compared to magicians — both conjure up fantastical results. So when world famous mentalist Derren Brown dropped in to Indian born UK based Chef Stephen Gomes’ restaurant Moksh in Cardiff unannounced for a meal, it was no surprise that the satisfied customer penned a personal note calling the winner of the Best UK Indian Chef’ (2007/8/9/10/11/13-14) a food magician. They have been friends ever since, said a spokesperson of Gomes’ adding, “Chef Gomes is readying himself for his Mumbai debut with Chemistry 101 opening this month in Lower Parel.”

Homi in Budapest
“I’d be a tad pissed if I couldn’t turn my head and witness the glory behind me too,” says hunky deep-sea diving director Homi Adajania along with lovely fashionista wife Anahita about this picture he shot in Budapest where he currently is for the shoot of Raabta starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Kirti Sanon, which he is producing. When asked what camera, lens, setting, he employed to capture this astonishing image, with his characteristic laid back Sobo boy charm he replied: ‘It’s my eye babe and an iPhone! It’s such a beautiful city that you sleep with your eyes open...not wanting to miss anything!” adding, “In Budapest for three months shooting and really can’t complain.”

Lending Her Voice
It’s not every day that one gets to share the stage with an idol. More rare when one performs in their presence as an amateur and receives their praise, but this is exactly what happened to New York-based activist and CEO of Breakthrough Mallika Dutt. “A powerful moment with Annie Lennox who shared her commitment to ending gender based violence,” said Dutt, who met with the actress when she went on stage with Sonali Khan to receive the Skoll Award for social entrepreneurship on behalf of Breakthrough this week. “She told me I had a beautiful voice!” said a chuffed Dutt. “Yup, I sang as part of my introduction last night. It was scary and if I had known she was in the audience, I would never have had the guts.” She confesses adding, “There was something about sitting at the high table in a Hogwarts like castle setting that made me take the plunge.”

Partying at Lake Como
This one truly passed under the radar. And all credit goes to the army maneuver stealth it was conducted in. Recently some of the city’s wealthiest and most high profile biz men — most of them top builders — jetted off to Lake Como to celebrate the fortieth birthday of the son of an erstwhile politician, a great regional leader. So precise were the non-disclosure codes required of guests that they were all sworn to secrecy so that the media would not get wind of the extravaganza and put a spoke in its wheel. “There were 60 people in all and somehow the media didn’t have a clue,” said an insider. “Until now,” that is.
