Lakhs of students who appeared for the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) on Saturday at different centres across Maharashtra were in for a rude shock after Paper I was over. The said paper was leaked and so is declared cancelled now. It will be rescheduled in near future.
While the paper was scheduled for Saturday from 10.30am to 1pm, the question paper was seen on Whatsapp in Pune while the list of answers were seen on Whatsapp in Beed. A candidate was caught with a video of question answers in Dhule. All this transpired during the first one hour of the examination schedule.
Police complaints have been made at respective places for further investigation while principal secretary of the education department has been asked to submit an investigation report in next 48 hours. While Paper I was cancelled, there were no changes in Paper II as it was conducted smoothly.
Mahavir Mane, Director of Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE), which conduct the examination, said, “This is shocking. After knowing of these incidents, within one hour from the start of the paper, the decision was taken to cancel the paper. Police complaints have been filed for further investigation while departmental inquiry continues. The leak was observed in Beed, Dhule and Pune but in other parts of the state the test was conducted smoothly. However, the paper stands cancelled for entire state and we will soon reschedule it.” Mane told mid-day that, in total 1,74,163, candidates appeared for Paper I on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Vinod Tawde stated through a tweet, “TET paper leak is a serious issue! Principal Secretary Nandkumar is instructed to take action and submit an investigative report in 48 hours. Even top officials involved in TET paper leak will have to face grave repercussions and strict actions will be taken against the offenders.”
When contacted, Principal Secretary for Education Department, Nand Kumar, confirmed the leak. “The investigation is on, and further decision about rescheduling of the paper will be taken in due course of time."
