On Thursday, the apex court of the country ordered to shift ailing CPI-M leader Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami to the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS). Tarigami, who is under detention in Jammu and Kashmir will be soon shifted to AIIMS after the Supreme Court said that his health is the topmost priority.

The Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi has also sought the Centre's response on a plea filed by CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury that has challenged the Tarigami in Jammu and Kashmir. Senior advocate and Yechury's counsel Raju Ramachandran told the apex court that during his recent visit to Srinagar, Yechury found Tarigami's movement restricted and his security vehicles withdrawn.

The senior advocate also stressed to pursue the habeas corpus petition filed in this regard before the apex court. On Monday, Sitaram Yechury filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court after his visit to the Valley where he met his detained party colleague Tarigami.

On August 28, the apex court had granted permission to Yechury to meet Tarigami. At the same time, the court had asked Yechury to refrain from getting involved in any other activity. The order was passed on Yechury's habeas corpus petition which challenged the detention of Tarigami ahead of the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5.

The plea also stated that Tarigami was not in good health and that Yechury wanted to meet him.
