Speeding truck knocks down pedestrian in suburban Kurla

A 54-year-old pedestrian was knocked down by a speeding truck in suburban Kurla, the police said.

Deceased identified as Mario Coutinho (54) was hit by the speeding truck being driven by one Sanjay Yadav (34).u00a0

Coutinho succumbed to critical injuries on the spot, police said adding that Yadav was taken to the V B Nagar police station and is under arrest.

According to police, Coutinho, who stayed in Zariwala chawl in Bail Bazar locality, was walking towards a shop when the truck, which lost control, knocked him at about 10.30 am.

Coutinho was rushed to the nearby Rajawadi hospital where he was declared dead before admission, police said.

"Yadav's blood samples were taken to ascertain if he was under the influence of alcohol while driving the truck. The driver claimed Coutinho appeared drunk so the deceased's blood samples were also taken," said a police officer.
