Space for rent

ONCE upon a time in a land far far away in outer space, there lived a little girl named "Mighty." Abandoned at birth, Mighty was raised by a beautiful fairy god mother/ father "Joey." Joey was a drag queen and loved to dress up in the most outlandish costumes you ever saw. She (let's just refer to Joey as 'she' in this article to avoid confusion and use less words) had long blond hair (definitely extensions) with beautiful porcelain skin and the rosiest lips you ever saw. While Mighty had jet-black short hair and the duskiest skin in town. They made a fine pair, Mighty and Joey. Walking around town like a Benetton commercial.u00a0

Unlike most fairy godmothers that used brooms and sticks to fly around, Joey had her shoes. She had custom made wings attached to all her pairs. That's the thing about drag queens, they are always way ahead of their times! Mighty loved to put on Joey's shoes and prance around. In space... outta space...

It was her 13th birthday in 2 days and she was very excited. "Joey' gonna buy me lots of presents... I know it... maybe she will buy me a pair of peep toe shoes? Or maybe boots? Red ones! Or perhaps yellow patent leather mary janes?" "And then Joey and I will then fly outta this space and travel to other lands and discover other shoes!" Mighty spend her birthday eve wishing to the shoe god for the perfect pair of shoes. With her own pair of wings!u00a0

Joey was listening. She pulled out the shocking pink 'pleather' (another word use for fake leather) as she was an animal rights activist and went to town. "Nothing but the best for my Mighty!"u00a0

The next morning Mighty woke up to the most amazing shocking pink pixie toe shoes with gold wings she had ever seen. "Fly with me Joey..."

The adventure began. The two ladies flew around for a bit till they saw a sign that intrigued them "this space for rent." Destination: Planet Earth. They hid their wings and walked around to soak in the sights.

Men walking around like zombies, women hissing like bad speakers... mumbling a term implanted in their head through media and textbook mumbo jumbo. "I need my space!" "I was giving you space!"u00a0

"Huh!" This term 'space' had the two in a trance. It was everywhere.

Builders' looking for space, consumers looking for space, business owners looking for space, strays looking for space, mothers looking for space, husbands looking for space, airports looking for space, junkies looking for space, hoodlums for space, newborns looking for space, psychiatrists looking for space, astronauts looking for space, prisons looking for space, even shoes looking for space.

They sat around and observed.

Millions of Americans walking around
In space with space
So no two can collide
at any pace....

They overheard.

"Who the heck asked for space? "
Said the space cadet....

They eaves dropped

"Surprise me sometimes
I'd like you in my space
Outta space
I wait
Dressed in lace
Take me to the moon
Feed me a space-
Cake!"

u00a0"Is "space" the new "black?" asked a fashionable Mighty as she pulled out her wings ready to fly.u00a0
"There is no space for space," said the profound drag queen fairy godmother as they both held hands and took off. Into Space.

"It is easy in the world to live after the world's opinions; it is easy in solitude to live after your own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude." Ralph Waldo Emerson
