"MY brother's had a problem, I need to go early," said Priyadarshini Basu, her last words before she left office in a hurry.

The next Sushant Kumar Sahu, city co-coordinator of the NGO Greenpeace, where Priyadarshini worked, knew about Priyadarshini was that she was dead.

"I was shocked to learn her brother killed her," said Sahu.

Sahu recalled that Priyadarshini had left office early on Tuesday, at 4.30 pm.

"She came to me and said, 'My brother has had a problem.' She said she had to leave early," said Sahu. "She was working as an outreach officer at Greenpeace and was known for her happy-go-lucky nature."

Priayadarshini's neighbours from Aparajita building in Shinde Nagar, Bavdhan, were shocked to learn of the incident.

"Priyadarshini always had a bright smile," said a girl living in the building, requesting she not be named. "She had introduced me to her parents when they came visiting a few days ago."

Priyadarshini had done her graduation in microbiology and pursued a Master of Hospitality and Administration course before taking up the Greenpeace job a year and 10 months ago.

A building occupant, R Ganapathy, said, "The brother and sister had came to live here just two-and-a-half months ago. They were quiet and well behaved."
