Reach, a charitable organisation is conducting a workshop to create awareness and spread information about remedial measures for children with learning disabilities

TAARE Zameen Par might have sparked interest in learning disability but REACH, a charitable organisation, has been undertaking counseling and remedial education of students with leaning disabilities since 2002.

This year their annual event, Perfu00eate, a combination of the words 'perfect' and 'fest' is targeted towards creating awareness amongst those sections that interact with children with learning difficulties. These would include teachers who teach in regular schools, speech therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, parents and other related professionals interested in the field of learning difficulties learning disabilities and emotional problems.

The workshop that is being conducted by noted experts in this field, aims to bring about an understanding of the early signs of learning disability, to identify students that are at a risk of having learning disabilities and spreading knowledge about the different assessment techniques. Says Anuradha Patpatia, the president of REACH Trust, "We have seen centres that conduct tests which are not required. Remedial therapy is a must for all children with learning disability."

The workshop would be an eye opener not only for professionals but also for parents with children who have learning difficulties or are slow learners. Says Patpatia, "We teach them how to handle their children at home.

Sometimes parents do not have time to do a full course and hence this workshop will help them."

It's not all talk, though. The students from REACH would be performing. Patpatia says this is a creative channel for the children. Just a performance does not do for them and hence they are involved in the entire workshop as volunteers. An exhibition cum sale is also being conducted of books on a variety of related topics that might interest parents.u00a0u00a0
