"Had the Delhi police acted in time, my grandson would have been alive," said Joseph John, grandfather of Nicholas John-Loyal, who was allegedly murdered by his mother and her live-in partner
"Had the Delhi police acted in time, my grandson would have been alive. I kept asking them to help me and rescue my innocent grandson. But because of their delay in action I have lost my grandson. He was the sole ray of hope for whom I was alive," said Joseph John (75), the grandfather of 16-year-old Nicholas John-Loyal, who was allegedly murdered by his mother and her live-in partner, Yunus. Nicholas’ body was found on Sunday, buried under the floor of the house where he stayed with his mother and her boyfriend in Pune.

The post mortem on Sunday at Common Hospital mentions that Nicholas was killed two months back.
John, who arrived in Pune along with New Delhi police on Sunday, was shocked to see his grandson’s decomposed dead body. Nicholas, a student of Std IX, stayed with John, his maternal grandfather, in Tigri area in New Delhi. On September 2, 2015, he left early to play cricket but did not return. John filed a kidnapping case with New Delhi police. But a month later, Nicholas called his grandfather and said he was in Pune.
Nicholas’ grandfather Joseph John said he had called him and asked him to take him back.
On Monday, Nicholas’ last rites were performed at Fatima Nagar. Speaking to midday, John said, "I am really ashamed that I am the father of Varita, my youngest daughter. She is the mother of three children - Aanush (17) who is in Std X, Nicholas (16) and Priya (15) who is in Std VIII. 15 years back Varita divorced and began staying with me. She worked with a lawyer, and five years back she started to live-in with many partners. I did not want her children to suffer, so I took in Nicholas, while my other two daughters took care of her other two children." He claimed Varita met Yunus in a lawyer’s chamber and he was involved in a criminal case.

John said after the first call in October, Nicholas called again in November via a friend’s phone and was weeping. He asked John to take him back but did not know the address. John said, "In October Nicholas had told me that he was lured by Varita with a remote controlled car. From October I was following up with New Delhi police, but my pleas fell on deaf ears. Later during Christmas, Yunus came to my house and claimed that Nicholas committed suicide. I could not digest the fact." John added that after this, he kept going to the police but they did not pay attention to him. "I threatened to kill myself before police if they did not help me."
He added, "I knew my grandson well. He could not have ended his life. He had told me that Varita treated him badly and Yunus beat him and made him work like a slave. He was working with Yunus. I used to get a dream in which Nicholas used to cry and tell me to rescue him. He would say I am there in the house. I recalled that and asked police to probe the house. We broke the house lock and found some tiles in the bedroom floor seemed to be different. The police dug some three feet and found a decomposed dead body. I identified him based on the jacket that I had given him."
