Mathura: A married woman has accused a police officer of trying to rape her after forcibly entering into her house, following which he was removed from duty and an investigation initiated against him.

According to Mathura Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manjil Saini, the in-charge of an outpost in Raya police station area, K P Singh, has been sent to Police Lines after a woman filed a complaint yesterday.

According to the complainant, Bijpur police outpost in-charge Singh came to her house on April 24 night looking for her husband in connection with a case but after realising that she was alone he forcibly entered into the house and tried to rape her.

The woman alleged that police initially refused to file an FIR against the accused and that she was threatened with dire consequences if she pursued the matter further.

An FIR was finally registered after she took up the matter with the DIG, the woman said. The SSP said an inquiry has been initiated under senior officer Ajay Kumar against the accused.

Meanwhile, Director General of Police Lakshmi Singh ordered suspension of five stenographers during a visit to the Mathura police station after it was found that a few files have gone missing.
