One-way traffic restored on Metro accident route

One-way traffic was restored today on Moolchand-Jamrudpur-Nehru Place route, the site of two accidents at the Delhi Metro projects in the area.

Six people were killed when an under-construction pillar collapsed on Sunday while six others were injured when cranes toppled at the same site on Monday.

Vehicular traffic had been stopped on the route following the rescue debris clearing operations. Traffic movement towards Nehru Place, one of the capital's main commercial hubs, has been badly affected with traffic chaos in many places like Greater Kailash, Amar Colony, Moolchand and East of Kailash. Water supply is yet to be restored in the area which witnessed a pipe-burst after a portion of the collapsed bridge fell on it. Power supply has also been temporarily snapped.

Delhi Metro spokesperson Anuj Dayal had yesterday said traffic on one road is likely to be open by Tuesday afternoon and the other lane will be open in six to seven days, by which time the whole clearing up operation is expected to be completed.
