Mathura: One person involved in the alleged gang-rape of a 10-year old girl late Wednesday, after she was lured out of the district hospital where she was admitted, has been arrested, police said on Friday.

"Only one person was involved. We have arrested him. Another person has been detained for questioning," Station House Officer, C.B. Singh told IANS.

The hospital had a different story to tell.

"A written complaint has been lodged and an FIR registered. One person, identified as Aslam, was arrested but the others are absconding," NK Garg, the chief medical superintendent, said late Thursday.

"Since the lady doctor was not available today, the medical examination of the girl can only be conducted tomorrow (Friday)."

Social activists accused the administration of hushing up the crime, as there was a delay in police responding to the complaint filed by the hospital.

The girl was admitted to the district hospital in April by Government Railway Police after she fell from a running train and hurt her leg.

Social activists alleged there were five rapists.

"Police is trying to shield some."

"They managed to lure her out of the hospital by promising to buy her biscuits and chocolate. They then took her to a secluded corner in the hospital park and raped her," a hospital source said.
