In a freak accident, a senior citizen lost his life when a tempo ran over him at around 3 pm yesterday.

One dead in rash driving case

In a freak accident, a senior citizen lost his life when a tempo ran over him at around 3 pm yesterday. Vijay Bapat (65) was walking on S M Joshi Bridge near Patrakar Sangh when the tempo driver, Rizwan Sheikh (30), lost control over the vehicle and ran over him before bumping into a bike and a cycle.

The impact of the accident was so grave that Bapat died on the spot. His body was sent to Sassoon Hospital for postmortem and the driver was arrested from the spot. A case, under Section 304 and 427 of IPC, has been registered against him at the Senadutta police chowky.

While in another incident, six people got injured when a drunken truck driver ran his vehicle into two shanties near PMC godown at 1.30 am today. The injured were rushed to Sassoon hospital, while the driver was arrested by the Shivajinagar police and was booked for careless driving.
