Snow Leopard, the Mac software upgrade being launched tomorrow, has already got tweeters anxious

TWITTER is buzzing with messages about Snow Leopard, the upgrade to the Mac operating system releasing tomorrow.

Apple regulars are excited by the promise of faster computing with this upgrade to its OS X, but many are concerned about compatibility with programs they use.

"Another reason to hate Adobe (I've got a long list, kids)... Adobe Won't Guarantee CS3 Will Work on Snow Leopard."

CS is short for Creative suite, which Wikipedia describes as "a collection of graphic design, video editing, and web development applications made by Adobe Systems."

A tweeter provided a link to a PDF explaining how CS3 and CS4 would interact with Snow Leopard. Quark Xpress, the pagemaking software considered the industry standard in print journalism, was quick to preempt compatibility concerns. QuarkNews tweeted: "Yes, QuarkXPress 8.1 is Snow Leopard ready. Let me know if we can help with anything".

Snow Leopard has made to the bestselling electronics list at Amazon, the online bookstore. One tweeter was thrilled he had got the software at a discount.

The program is available at stores in the US and the UK tomorrow. Those who bought it online will be able to activate it only tomorrow. Some welcome Snow Leopard cautiously. A tweeter who goes by the name of Scottking, said, "Got my copy of Snow Leopard from work, but I kinda want to wait a week or two before installing to make sure FCP & other programs are fine." (FCP refers to the video editing program Final Cut Pro).

Apple's statement for India said "Snow Leopard builds on a decade of OS X innovation and success with hundreds of refinements..."

Snow Leopard is a much-hyped upgrade for Mac OS X Leopard users, and costs 25 pounds in the UK.

That translates to almost Rs 2,000 in India, but Apple has yet to announce how much the upgrade will cost here, and when it will be available.
