Jayamala and other showbiz friends step in and counsel runaway star Shruti not to break up with hubby Mahendar

Glam doll Shruthi has put divorce plans on hold after senior actor Jayamala stepped in to play peacemaker.

The star, also a BJP member, created a stir in Sandalwood a few weeks back, declaring that she was divorcing director-husband Mahendar to marry Chandrachood, a smalltime journalist. She even filed her divorce papers.

Jayamala, president of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, is said to have counselled Shruthi, asking her to give her remarriage plans a second thought. She and KFCC vice-president Sa Ra Govindu have tried to convince the actress to at least postpone the divorce proceedings if not completely dropping it.

"On Jayamala's advice, Shruthi also brought her daughter who was with Mahendar and spent time with her," said a source.

But Jayamala says she doesn't want any credit. "Shruthi is like my daughter and Mahendar is our colleague, I want them to be happy," she said.

She added that people could help the couple by not discussing the crisis which she hoped would be resolved shortly.

'Still committed'

Though Mahendar was not available for comments, Chandrachood said he and Shruthi remained committed.

u00a0"Shruthi is not small kid," he said. She knows what she is doing. We have decided to marry and we will be committed to the decision."

He said he was in constant touch with Shruthi. "I heard people are talking to her but nobody has come to me. I'd welcome it if anybody advised me," he said.

Party problems
Jayamala is also said to have spoken to BJP leaders, who had hinted at sacking Shruthi from the post of chairperson of the women's development corporation.

"There was an uproar in the party and many demanded Shruthi's ouster," a BJP leader told MiD DAY.

"However, many people including Jayamala prevailed upon the chief minister and the party president to save Shruthi."
