It's getting festive around town and parties are on everybody's agenda. Perfectly in time comes a workshop that helps you put on your dancing shoes and the right way. Learn the techniques of salsa through a crash course that comes with the sole aim of getting the moves right on that dance floor you have been dreading to hit. Open to all above the age of 16, this four-day workshop will introduce you to the basics of swing and salsa covered over 90 minute sessions. Instructors and professional dancers Arun Kumar and Praveen Kumar will train two batches with 15 members in each. "There are many different styles in Salsa like the New York style, LA style, the Columbian style and the Cuban one. We will be training in the easy going LA style," says Arun. "The moves will be absolute beginner style and intend to give the participants a little knowledge about the dance form," he adds. This Christmas sure comes with not just Christmas carol but a lot of rock n roll too. Kolkata band Hip Pocket is all set to hit town and what better day than Xmas to hit the city and get them all rocking. The band has been in existence for a good 14 years AND the current line-up consists of Sumith Ramachandran on the guitar, Nondon Bagchi on drums, Mainak "Bumpy" Nag Chowdhury on bass guitar, Dominic Saldanha on keyboards and Ben Westley on the vocals. The band boasts of seasoned musicians and takes you back in to the 60s and 80s, a time filled with classic rock.

Noted artist Bharti Kher will be displaying an exhibition titled Disturbia, Utopia, House Beautiful in town. Known for her fascination with bindis and heterogeneous sculpted female figurines Bharti has previously displayed her works at galleries around the world. This exhibition takes its inspiration from domesticities like broken teacups in a cabinet, the broken mirror of a dressing table and a globe propped on a chair. These together present the eternal idea of utopia and the conformism that surrounds the idea of suburbia. Though the exhibitsu00a0 surround worldly ideals, they have an inherent connect with the use of everyday objects

A group of 11 singers and 10 musicians will bring together a collection of Hindi film chartbusters from 1951 to 2009. A combination of established singers and newcomers, the line-up will include Ekta Shah, Priyanka Mitra, Sheelu Mehta, Debjani Mitra, Aniket Prabhu, Ganesha S, Shyama Sunder, Sujit D, Kumaran M, Unnikrishnan KB and Rakesh Baro.
