Cabbie boyfriend, locked in bathroom by drunk goons at knife point, calls friend for help who dismisses it as joke
A 23-year-old woman was threatened with a knife at 2 am on Thursday and repeatedly gangraped till the police arrived at the scene of crime at 10 am. The boyfriend of the woman, who was locked in the bathroom, tried calling for help, but his distress call was taken as a joke.

A Cool Cab driver based in Sahar Road, Vile Parle, brought his girlfriend, who resides at Saki Naka, home on Tuesday evening. His wife was out of town and he sent his children to live with his brother-in-law at Goregaon.
The four accused saw the couple on Tuesday and on Wednesday at 2 am, after getting drunk, knocked at the taxi driver’s door. The four men, identified as Rajesh Verma (21), Mahesh Kevat (20), Krishna Kevat (23) and Ramchandra Humbe (30), entered the house with beer bottles, assaulted the couple and threatened them with a knife.
“They later removedu00a0Rs 3,000 and a phone from the driver’s pocket and locked him inside the bathroom. One of them went out and got food and alcohol. They then locked the door and one by one raped the girl at knife-point. The girl alleges she was also physically assaulted,” said Senior Police Inspector (SPI) Shashikant Talegonkar from Vile Parle police station.
The taxi driver, locked in the bathroom, luckily had another phone in his back pocket. He finally contacted another taxi driver friend. However, his friend thought he was joking and narrated the incident of the call to another cab driver in the morning. The latter immediately contacted the police.
A team of policemen reached the spot and knocked on the door to no response. The locked driver heard the cops and began shouting for help. One of the police officers accessed a window and saw the rape scene. Meanwhile, the taxi driver managed to break the lock of the bathroom and got out.
“I called the police when I heard my friend was in some kind of trouble,” the taxi driver’s friend who called the police told MiD DAY. According to the police, the accused are local goons and have several cases pending against them.
The driver told the police that he repented having brought his girlfriend home and alleged he was threatened and beaten up. He said he was scared that his wife would leave him if she found out about the incident. The accused have been remanded in police custody till March 20.u00a0
