The Western Railway has decided to revise porterage charges with effect from July 1, a senior official said in Mumbai on Wednesday

The Western Railway has decided to revise porterage charges with effect from July 1, a senior official said in Mumbai on Wednesday.


"The rates of porterage charges to licensed porters at railway stations will be revised with effect from July 1, 2016 on Western Railway," the official said. "The porterage charged for passengers with luggage weighing up to 40 kg per head load per trip will be Rs 50 for all 'A1' and 'A' class stations; Rs 45 for All 'B' and 'C' class stations and Rs 40 for all other remaining stations."


Mumbai Central, Bandra Terminus and Surat stations on Mumbai division come under the category of A1 stations. Railway stations under A1 category are those with an annual income of Rs 50 crore or above, while A category stations are those which earn annual revenue between Rs 6 crore and Rs 50 crore.


The official also informed that the revised rates for wheeled barrow for luggage weighing up to 160 kgs carried on two-wheeled or four-wheeled barrows will be Rs 80 per trip, while rates for carrying sick or disabled persons on a wheel chair or a stretcher by two persons will be Rs 80 and when carried by four persons it will be Rs 130.

To carry luggage from Western Railway to Central Railway and vice versa at Dadar station the charges will be Rs 50," he said, adding the passenger will be charged this amount if he is availing the service lasting not more than 30 minutes.

Western Railway has also revised the waiting charges applicable to passengers availing the facility of its rest rooms. "Waiting charges after 30 minutes for every half an hour or part thereof has been revised to Rs 50 for all 'A1' and 'A' class stations; Rs 45 for all 'B' and 'C' class stations and Rs 40 for all other remaining stations.

"Licensed porters are available at all important stations for carrying luggage of passengers. These porters are not railways employees but are licensed by railways and must be paid authorised charges displayed at prominent places at railway stations," he said.

The official added that for identification the porters have been provided with a red shirt and an arm badge with a license number engraved on it.
