"With lifestyles having changed suddenly over the years, one has to be cautious before the situation gets out of hand," said Puntambekar.
Ketki Shah (21, name changed), a student of fine arts, is a case in point. Ketki, who loved hookah parties, gradually got hooked to drugs. She is being treated for hashish and liquor addiction.
Mayuri Shah (29, name changed) has been undergoing treatment at Nishigandh for the past six months. "I was in the hospitality industry in Dubai and got hooked to alcohol. Getting de-addicted was difficult.
My husband helped me and got me admitted at this centre," she said.

"We have advised Mayuri not to join any hospitality-related job, as chances of a relapse are higher if she works there," said Prafulla Mohite, counsellor and project-coordinator, of Nishigandh.
"Women find it difficult to admit that they are addicted because there is a stigma attached to women who drink. However, it is easier to treat women than men," said Mohite.
