The river, continued to flow above the danger mark on Tuesday although the flood-like situation in several low-lying areas along the banks has improved significantly.
"The water level, which had come down to 205.45 metres on Monday night has again risen to 205.53 metres on Tuesday evening which is 70 cm above the danger mark of 204.83 metres," said an official of the flood control department.
"However, the Yamuna is not expected to swell much further as the water discharge from the barrage has remained around one lakh cusecs in the past two days," added the official. "If the water doesn't remain in Delhi, the level will come down."
The water level had touched 206.98 metres on Saturday evening. Though the situation has improved slightly, nearly 4000 people from low-lying areas near the river are still staying in several relief camps set up by Delhi government. Hundreds of people have taken shelter along the city roads including near prominent localities which are being spruced up for CWG.
Yamuna had recently flooded several localities of east Delhi including Garhi Mandu, Usmanpur Pusta, Jagatpur Village and Shastri Nagar.
Flood water had also entered areas like Yamuna Vihar, Madanpur, Sonia Vihar, Nigambodh,u00a0 Jaitpur, Tibet Market and Yamuna Bazar. "The situation has improved significantly in these areas," said the official.
