Maulana Azad Medical College institutes panel to probe into the matter

A first year postgraduate student of Medicine at Maulana Azad Medical College has alleged ragging/harassment at the hands of her seniors.

Dr Shweta, in a written complaint to the UGC, had alleged that a group of five seniors from her department had been "ragging" her. The UGC referred the matter to the college's anti-ragging squad.
The anti-ragging squad questioned the five students on Wednesday, said sources, adding that nothing concrete has come up as yet.

"The student is not a fresher and the charges she has made does not fall into the category of ragging. However, the investigations will be done and action taken against any body found guilty," a senior college official told MiD DAY, requesting anonymity.

The Dean Dr AK Agarwal has constituted anti-ragging committee of three members comprising Dr Veena Choudhary, Dr Swaraj Batra and Dr Richa Diwan to look into the incident. "It was brought to our notice on Monday. We formed a fact finding committee the same day and on Tuesday after they submitted a report, we forwarded it to the apex committee. The next course of action will depend on the report that is expected to be submitted by this week," said Dr Agarwal.

The police have not registered a formal complaint in the case. "The matter has not been established yet. It is a case of perceived ragging. The girl has studied in the same college; she is supposedly not a fresher and this cannot be categorised as a case of ragging," said Jaspal Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (central Delhi).
