Maoists end Jharkhand shut-down with violence

Maoists shot at and injured two persons, blew up a culvert and burnt down four vehicles at Chatra as they ended their two-day Jharkhand shutdown.

The Maoists opened fire on a truck injuring the driver and his helper at Bhuiandih in Chatra district a little before their shut-down ended Monday night, Superintendent of Police, DB Sharma, said here on Tuesday.

The ultras also used explosives to blow up a culvert in the same village, disrupting traffic on the Chatra-Gaya route, besides setting ablaze four vehicles.

The Maoists, who indulged in massive destruction of public property during the shutdown, were demanding production of their cadre Ashok Mahato before a court. The police have denied arresting any person by that name.
