Rathod was admitted at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital in Pimpri by 11.50 pm on Monday.
Rathod told MiD DAY that the attack on him happened when he was having dinner at Sane Bandhu Hotel near the Nigdi Railway Station area.
A gang of 12 sitting on the next table to Rathod suddenly pounced on him with lathis and beer bottles.
He was kicked and beaten up with sticks. Somehow he managed to escape and filed a complaint at the Nigdi police.
PI Thorad said the identity of the attackers and the motive for the attacks was not known.
However, he said previous enmity could be the reason for the assault.
The casualty medical officer of YCM Hospital said that Rathod has sustained blunt trauma and has been undergoing immediate treatment.
Blunt trauma refers to a type of physical trauma caused to a body part, either by impact, injury or physical attack.
"Fortunately, he did not sustain any fracture on any of his body bones," the medical officer said.
