The Kanpur police revealed identity of thirty more persons who were involved in the alleged desecration of a religious poster that led to clashes between two communities in various parts of the district on October 24

Kanpur: The Kanpur police on Thursday revealed identity of thirty more persons who were involved in the alleged desecration of a religious poster that led to clashes between two communities in various parts of the district on October 24.


Police had earlier arrested 33 persons on Tuesday and detained at least 12 others in connection with clashes at the Darshanpurwa area here.


"Thirty-three people were jailed under various section on October 24 out of total of 2,550 booked persons in connection with the clashes. And 100 persons have been identified from the footages provided by the media and videography done on police department's behest," Kanpur Superintendent of Police (SP), Shalabh Mathur said today.


Since its the last phase of Panchayat election today and the results will be declared on 1st and 2nd November, therefore these 30 persons and the remaining wanted culprits will be arrested once the police officials get free from election duty, Mathur said.

The SP said that the names of thirty persons to be arrested have also been released to the media channels and police teams will formed to arrest them.

The remaining unidentified miscreants will also be nabbed soon, he added.

On October 24, the day of Moharram, a clash had broken out between two communities after poster of a Goddess was found on the ground at Darshanpurwa under Fazalganj police station here.
