La Marvella's sixth floor dining venue Sarrangi could easily be summed up as a space fit for royalty. Sarrangi oozes class and charm. A new eatery featuring traditional Northern Indian cuisine, the indoor and outdoor upper deck dining areas will appease the desires of even the most cultured connoisseurs of food.

Polished marble flooring leads you to the dining area decorated with traditional Indian tapestry and artwork, exuding elegance. Red was the predominant colour and the restaurant seems to have overdone it a bit.

Stepping out onto the upper terrace deck area, you get a 180 degree view of Bangalore. You can hear the sounds of the streets below while overlooking treetops and buildings.

Although we visited during evening, the restaurant still had a certain alluring ambience that would be framed well for a group of friends or colleagues dining together.

We started our meal with a Methi Mahi Tikka (Rs 320), fresh fish marinated and grilled in a spicy green coriander and methi. We found the fish a tad undercooked for a tikka. It could have been cooked longer but the marinade was deliciously spicy with a fresh coriander aftertaste.

The Makhmali Murgh Kebab (Rs 350) was a crispy batter-fried chicken patty mixed with cream and a hint of cardamom. A small slice of melon came planted in the middle of every patty and gave the lemony chicken a hint of juicy fruitiness.

For the mains we tried the Dal Makhni (Rs 320) which consisted of whole black lentils spiced up with Kasoori Methi and slow cooked to a creamy perfection overnight.

The rich gravy was flavoursome with a smooth buttery taste that was summed up well with the nutty lentil aroma. Following this was a large serving of Butter Chicken that was creamy and buttery, just the way it is meant to be. We wouldn't advice digging into this bowl of heavy duty greasy and rich dish if you are doing some weight watching these days though.

Overall, this ambient restaurant with its cultured interior and spacious city outlook is a fantastic venue for family gatherings or even social business meetings. The luxurious backdrop and authentic northern Indian cuisine is satisfying and will leave you wanting to return, even just to get an addictive feel for the opulent atmosphere.
