First accident on Eastern Freeway a month after inauguration

The Eastern Freeway, which was opened to the public around a month ago on June 13, saw the first accident on it take place today afternoon at around 3.30pm

The accident is said to have taken place at Wadala near the HPCL-BPCL oil depot. A car, which was coming from South Mumbai and going towards Chembur turned turtle. No causalities have been reported even. The driver was however injured.

Although there was heavy traffic after the accident, vehicles were not diverted to any other route.


MMRDA officials confirmed the accident, but said that they were unaware about the exact reason of it. An official, on condition of anonymity, said, “We do not know the cause of the accident and would understand it only once we speak to the traffic officials.”

The work on freeway had begun January 2009 and was inaugurated on June 13 this year.u00a0
