Two men posing as journalists were arrested on Wednesday evening for trying to extort Rs 5 lakh from a doctor in north-west Delhi.u00a0Deputy Commissioner of Police, north-west district, Meenu Chaudhary said: "The accused, Dinesh Jain (23) and Praveen Saini (23), were arrested from near Shakurpur area on Wednesday evening when they were trying to extort money from Dr Shafiq Ahmed. They had demanded Rs 5 lakh from the doctor.

A cop was on patrol in the area when he found the five people trying to extort money from the doctor and informed his seniors. A team was sent and the two were nabbed, but three others Dev, Vaibhav and Anuj managed to escape."

The officer said five persons had approached the doctor posing as media professionals and the SDM (Anti Corruption Branch). They told Ahmed that he cannot run his clinic as he did not have any valid registration or degree and threatened to publish this and even get him arrested if he did not pay them money.

"They asked Ahmed for his documents. Ahmed, having been in the Medical Council of India (MCI) earlier, knew that for checking his certificates, one must be from the MCI or local police must accompany the team. He got suspicious and asked for their credentials. By this time they had already taken photographs of his clinic from different angles and demanded Rs 1 lakh from him," said Chaudhary.

When Ahmed did not agree to their demands, they started shouting. Some people gathered hearing the commotion. Among the onlookers, some even claimed that the same gang had extorted money from them.
During interrogation, Jain revealed that he is the son of the CMD of Crime Control News and met Saini a fortnight ago.

In the last one month Jain and Saini along with their associates extorted money from three businessmen (Ice Cream manufacturer) and a medical professional. The police recovered a WagonR car, two press identity cards, one seal of Crime Control News and a flag with Anti Corruption NEC written on it.
