A brand new interface offers first-time visitors to the social networking website, a peek into the hottest topics being tweeted from Harry Potter's birthday to Friendship Day

THE popular social networking website Twitter has gone in for a makeover of sorts.

If earlier, you had to log in first to find out what's hot on Twitter, now the website has introduced a new interface on the home page that allows you to view tweets grouped by popular topics. You can jump on the tweet-bandwagon with the very first click, literally.

From Friendship Day to Harry Potter to the controversy surrounding the Iran Elections, there are a number of topics that have caught the attention of Twitterers around the world.

Web-surfers being notoriously averse to filling up registration forms online, the new interface is clearly aimed at first-time visitors to the site, who can survey the latest and hottest happenings on the website without actually having to sign-up.

Friendship central

Friendship Day found a natural home in Twitter the website is dedicated to bring people from across the world together.

Tweets ranged from a simple "Happy Friendship Day! Whatever that is anyways friends rockkkkkk!", to the perky "Happy friendship day to all my friends and enemies," to off-the-cuff definitions of friendship like, "Friends are like pockets you can never have too many!"

But this year's prize for the stinging reality must go to someone with the Twitter ID Saudiqueenbee, who minced no words when she said, "Happy Friendship day to all my fake friends out there too, 'cause you guys fill up my time with fake activities like movies, drinks, clubs, etc."

Pottermania

However, the credit for the most persistent Twitter topic in recent times must go to, who else, but Harry Potter.

Just when fellow Twitterers thought that the tide of obsessional tweeting around the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince subsided, Pottermania peaked once again, on July 31.

For the uninitiated, that's the boy wizard's birthday, which he shares with his creator Joanne Kathleen Rowling.

'The boy who lived' celebrated his 29th birthday, sending hordes of Twitterers into a frenzy of tweets on Harry, his friends and their adventures.
