The wheelchair-bound Saibaba, who is 90 per cent disabled, was arrested in May 2014 by the Maharashtra police in Delhi for alleged involvement in Maoist activities, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
His bail was cancelled on December 23.
The response by the Nagpur prison officials states, “Keeping in mind the medical condition of Saibaba, we at the Central Prison, Nagpur, provided him with a medical diet i.e. 220 ml of milk and egg as approved by the medical diet committee.”
On the request of dry fruits and fruits, the jail authorities said, “If a family member gets something for him, we will allow it. Fruits and dry fruits are made available to him only on a written request through the prison canteen as and when required.”
The jail reply also states that that the jail is providing Saibaba with the best medical facility as per provisions laid down in the prison manual and within the boundaries of law.
Saibaba’s advocate S P Gadling said, “The state will file their reply on February 28, and, after that, the matter will be argued and the orders will be passed on the same day.”
