NGO SWaCH and PMC's Kothrud ward office collaborated yesterday to collect items like keyboards, batteries, apart from old clothes, etc, which will be distributed for reuse
Purchased a new cellphone and wondering where to throw the old one? Yesterday, the NGO SWaCH organised a drive ‘V-Collect’, providing an option to permanently dispose of e-waste. Hundreds of residents of Kothrud area enthusiastically participated. The NGO says it may carry out such campaigns in future as well.

Besides e-items, the organisers also collected other waste that you cannot dump in a hurry, like old furniture, shoes and clothes. PMC’s Kothrud ward office collaborated with the NGO in the drive.
“We have received a good response from residents. Many have told us that before this they had no way to discard e-waste. We are planning to conduct such drives at least once a month,” said Avinash Sakpal, Kothrud ward officer.
The NGO allocated seven big containers to collect the trash. “In this drive we have collected 100 kg of clothes, a 200-litre container full of e-waste like keyboards, batteries, wires etc,” informed Sandhya Dhamale, a SWaCH volunteer.
“We intimated the residents about the campaign a week ago. Till now we have conducted many similar drives and have got excellent feedback,” she added.
“There are many household items that are not easy to get rid of. This drive will ensure that the articles reach those who can use them,” said PS Dandavte, a resident of Paramhans Society.u00a0
