Police say New Friends Colony murders solved; accused allegedly found victims in a compromising position

The Capital, it would seem, is fast turning into a killing field for honour assassins. After the triple murder in Ashok Vihar last month, it turns out the two people found dead in New Friends Colony on July 10 also fell prey to the honour brigade.u00a0The police have arrested Edward, 45 and Ruben Joseph for allegedly murdering Bimal, 22, and Hari Lal, 25. The dead bodies of the deceased were found in a park in New Friends colony.

B block of New Friends colony. Our team took both the victims to the hospital where doctors declared them brought dead.

There was no clue to the identification of the deceased. We found three SIM cards from the male victim and after sustained technical investigation we identified him as Hari Lal, 25 and the female victim as Bimal, 22. In further investigations we found that Bimal was a resident of NFC and Hari was a resident of Panipat and was working in a factory in the same area," said a police officer.

The police lodged an FIR under section 302 of IPC in the New Friends Colony police station and started investigating the case. "We found the family members of Bimal and they disclosed that Bimal and Hari were lovers and were trying to get married but Bimal's father Edward was not in favour of the relationship because of the caste and religion angle. One and a half months ago Edwards's friend Ruben Joseph arranged a meeting between Hari and Edward for the acceptance of the marriage. But Edward refused to agree to the relationship. We have detained her father Edward and his friend Ruben for interrogation," the officer added.

"The accused Edward told us that on the night of July 10 he went back to his place in NFC. His friend Ruben told him that his daughter and his would be son-in-law are in the servant quarters and when he looked into the house he saw them in a compromising position. Then Hari took a kitchen knife and attacked them.

But Edward and Ruben caught him and strangled him with Bimla's stole. Bimla shouted for help but the duo strangled her as well. Then they dumped the bodies discreetly in the park and covered them with grass. They burnt the stole to destroy the evidence. We have arrested both of the accused and further investigations are on," the officer added.

The accused Edward was working on an under-construction building in the area as a labourer and her deceased daughter Bimal was employed as a maid in some neighbouring households. Ruben worked as security guard.
