Members of Deccan Gymkhana Parisar Samiti (DGPS) handed over 26 vehicle wheel jammers to DCP Vishwas Pandhare of the Pune traffic police and Inspector Neelam Jadhav of the Deccan traffic division yesterday.
The group had collected contributions from residents of ward 36 towards fabrication of the units and DGPS members Mukund Lele, Anil Kelkar and Amit Paranjape presented the jammers to the officials.

“Now haphazard parking that is so common in the city will be brought under control to a certain extent in this division,” said Lele. Lele added that besides this “static” traffic menace, the DGPS is concerned about other aspects, like rash and negligent driving, which has resulted in several fatal accidents in the division.
“We would like the police to exert greater pressure on our ward office to get various works related to traffic signals, speed breakers, pedestrian crossings, parking and P1/P2 signs done. We understand that no parking and P1/P2 signs are removed by miscreants, because of which the police cannot enforce the rules. Removing traffic signs is a crime and corresponding FIRs need to be filed. We want discipline back on our roads and safety for senior citizens, children and pedestrians,” Paranjape said.
DCP Vishwas Pandhare said, “Apart from a manpower crunch, the police lack cranes and tempos, which are instrumental in curbing traffic violations. The citizens move is welcome and joint ventures like this will give police personnel a shot in the arm and help to tackle traffic violations.” u00a0
