After a hiatus, Cyrus Dastur is staging the play, Tonite I Can Write. It is based on relationships, reunions, understanding and homosexuality. Starring Ritika Sahni and Dastur, Tonite I Can Write is directed by Shomshukla. According to Dastur, it explores different time spans in the lives of two individuals over many years.



It opens on February 15 as the closing act of the Kala Ghoda Festival. Dastur's earlier plays include When God Said Cheers and Intehaa. He is also the name behind the short film club Shamiana, the hub of short film-makers in India.


From Kolkata with love

Kolkata-based theatre personality Tathagata Chowdhury was in town recently to conduct a workshop.

He is the founder of Theatrecian, which is considered to be the most prolific theatre company in Kolkata staging English productions. The Theatrecian theatre workshop by the UK-trained Tathagata included personality development, an introduction to Harold Pinter's plays, as well as a chance for participants to perform on stage.


Navjote celebrations for Smriti

Smriti Irani has bid adieu to stage, as her hit comedy Maniben.com will now be made into a television soap.

But that did not stop all her theatre associates in joining her and hubby Zubin Irani in celebrating her son Zohr's Navjote ceremony at an agiary in Colaba on Thursday. Apart from the stage world, her friends from the TV fraternity also made an appearance.


Rajda, Sangghvi together again

After staging the Rajiv Mehta-Kumkum Das starrer Rasiklal Nei Rasleela, which took on God and godliness, executive producer Bhavikk Sangghvi has teamed up with writer-director Suresh Rajda yet again.

Their next venture will be a thriller that will open March-end.


Spotted: Mukesh Ambani watching Chanakya

Mukesh Ambani was spotted watching the staging of Manoj Joshi's Chanakya at the Tata Theatre, Nariman Point, on Republic Day.

The Reliance head honcho was seen enjoying the statecraft of Chanakya, who played a key role in the foundation and governance of the Maurya Dynastyu00a0maybe he was looking for tips on how to run RIL.


Take a walk in the Park today

As part of the Prithvi Theatre@Horniman Circle Garden, Manav Kaul's Aranya troupe is staging a brand new production, Park (which so aptly suits the venue!).

On the first weekend of every month (except during the monsoons), Prithvi will stage free shows at Horniman Circle grounds. Park, directed by Kaul and Kumud Mishra, is about three men squabbling about the choicest of seats on their favourite bench.

Each one thinks his claim is the greatest and hence, the most fundamental. The cast includes Shubhrojyoti, Sumeet, Gopal, Choiti and Kshipra.

On today and Sunday at Horniman Circle Gardens, Fort, at 8 pm. Entry is free.
