Case on a similar fake stamp paper racket in Madiwala was on for six years, sentence to be announced today
A fast track court has convicted Abdul Karim Telgi in the Madiwala fake stamp paper racket, after the Special Investigation team (StampIT) managed to bust Telgi's countrywide circulation network.
Considering the inter-state ramification and magnitude of the case, the then state government had formed StampIT, a special team headed by the then chairman of the State Police Housing Corporation, R Sri Kumar.

Telgi was already lodged in jail at the time.
Convicting Telgi and 17 others, the Special Sessions Judge gave a reasoned order that ran into 923 pages.
Telgi who was still managing the racket from inside the jail through cell phones, was tracked down by the StampIT officials, who also busted his business centres spread across the country.
The CBI later took over the case.
Convicting Telgi and 17 others, Special Sessions Judge Chandrashekhar Patil gave a reasoned order running into 923 pages.
Two other high-profile accused in the case, Jayasimha and Nanjappa, jail superintendents, who were charged for taking favours from Telgi, were however acquitted.
In all, there were 36 accused, of which 18 have been convicted.
The court while calling for the records said that it would decide on the pronouncement of sentence today. The court examined 500 documents and 146 witnesses, and the case was heard nearly for six years.
Sri Kumar, the commissioner of the Central Vigilance Commission, refused to share his views and experience on the investigations.
