The duo stole the package from their office and sold the handset in Kalina market for Rs 10,000
Pravin Therapallai (32) and Rakesh Tanaji Tawar (19) were arrested on Sunday for stealing a parcel containing a mobile phoneworth Rs 21,490 from the courier office where they worked. The parcel despatched from Delhi was destined for its receiver in Andheri. The two had been working in the company for the last four months and were about to get hired on a permanent basis.

“The crime occurred on June 17 after an employee reported to the courier company manager that a package had been missing since its arrival. Therapallai and Tawar stopped coming to work ever since the parcel disappeared. Initially, another employee of the company Manoj Parab, who had suddenly gone missing, was arrested on the basis of suspicion,” an official from Kurla police station said.
It was company manager Yusuf Baig who lodged a complaint against the three men including Parab since they had gone missing, after Baig failed to locate the package, said the policeman.
Wrong man
“We traced the location of Manoj Parab in Bihar and a team was despatched to arrest him,” he said. Investigation revealed that Parab was innocent and had left the job as he was fed up of working for the firm. Officials then detained Therapallai, a resident of Khar.
During interrogation he confessed to the theft and revealed Tawar’s involvement in the crime. A resident of Kurla, Tawar was arrested soon after. Police officials also recovered the handset they had sold in Kalina for Rs 10,000.
The two were booked under Indian Penal Code section 392 (robbery) and were remanded in police custody. u00a0
