Breathlyser reports and doctors from Sassoon General Hospital confirmed Haq was inebriated.

Haq's mother Sayyad Baliga, a NCP woman municipal councillor from Udgir in Latur district, was contacted on her cell phone.u00a0 She was busy in a party meeting with the deputy CM Ajit Pawar in Mumbai.

She reportedly requested the traffic police to set him free with an oral warning.

"We bluntly refused to comply as Haq had committed a cognisable offence. He was booked under section 184 and 185 (rash and drunken drive respectively) under Mumbai Motor Vehicle Act," said Traffic Police Constable Shankar Kumbhar, who caught Haq.

Haq, who is doing his masters in hotel management in Latur, said he was in the city for some work, had consumed alcohol with a friend and then gone out for a ride on his bike.

He also requested Kumbhar not to inform his mother of his act and arrest. After spending a whole night in the police lock up, Haq was set free by the court after granting him bail on payment of Rs 1,000.

PI Rajesh Shirke said: "Rash driving after consuming liquor is a crime and nobody will be excluded as everybody is equal before the law."
