Jamshedpur: Alleging that yoga was being privatised by BJP, the East Singhbhum District Congress Committee has decided to organise a 'Walk for Nation and Society' here tomorrow to coincide with International Yoga Day.

Congress members and supporters will assemble at Jubilee Park gate tomorrow morning and take part in the walk, said district Congress (DCC) president Vijay Khan.

At a press conference here today, Khan said the objective behind the programme was to send out the message that walking is good for health and ask people to walk everyday as it keeps one healthy and benefits the nation and society as well.

Khan said that saints and yoga gurus had promoted yoga as something which was good for health, but added that "some people are bent upon privatising Yoga, which we want to oppose".

He said that yoga should be promoted, but not at the cost of the country's exchequer. It is a serious matter that crores of rupees is being wasted on the pretext of promoting yoga, he added.

The money could have been utilised to provide facilities such as toilets, water and medicines to the poor, he said.

Claiming that only a selected few were invited to take part in the International Yoga Day event in New Delhi tomorrow, the DCC president said that the ruling BJP should have invited people like him, but did not do so.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government should explain to the nation the huge spending on the pretext of International Yoga Day, added Khan.
