Congress plans padyatras on Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary

In order to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and spread his message of non-violence across the country, the Congress party will be organising a week-long program from October 2 to 9, 2019 in forms of padyatras across the country to celebrate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.





In a letter dated September 4, 2019, addressing all the state presidents and in-charges, General Secretaries, CLP leaders, secretaries and chief of the frontal organisation, Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal said, "It is decided that our party will undertake the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi for a week (during October 2-9)," reports news agency IANS.

In his latter, Venugopal said that massive padyatras will be organised at all state levels. He urged party workers to wear Gandhi topi and carry photographs of Mahatma Gandhi. The letter also states the members to chant appropriate slogans of Mahatma Gandhi so that the thoughts of late Mahatma Gandhi could be spread across the country.

Venugopal also said that fro,m October 3-9, a number of activities will be taken at PCC/district/block levels and lectures or seminars or debates with the participation of subject experts will also be conducted on the values and ideals for which Mahatma Gandhi stood and took a stand for.
