Having performed all over the world in Russia, Greece, Malta, Germany, US and UK, pianist Karl Lutchmayer will regale the Pune audience in a programme presented by the Poona Music Society. His repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to contemporary music and he has performed for the All India Radio, Radio 3 and Classic FM.
"As a young boy, I used to hear my mother playing popular classical pieces such as Maiden's Prayer and Rustle of Spring on our old piano, and I was fascinated by the sounds," he explains. He asked to go for lessons from the age of 6. At the end of the first lesson, when his piano teacher asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up, he immediately said that he wanted to be a pianist.
He has performed in Pune, Mumbai and Goa as well. "Both my parents are Indian and grew up in Mumbai, and my mother's family comes from and still lives in Goa. I am a frequent visitor as well." His performance is noted by his chats with the audience about the music he is playing and thus letting them into his world.u00a0
His upcoming performance will be a Romantic programme, starting with the Italian composer-pianist Busoni's transcription of the Bach D minor Chaconne for the piano. He will also play the Liszt's edition of the rarely heard Schubert Wanderer Fantasy.
