Demand for Doctors
Studying medicine is not easy. Also, the number of years dedicated to gain an expertise in the chosen field of medicine is high. Typically, aspiring students have to go through a 4-year graduate program from an accredited medical school after finishing college. Then, the graduates must complete the residency training program for about 3-7 years depending upon the specialization.
Besides academic excellence, the reputation of a doctor is determined by his professionalism, attitude to patient, total commitment, competence, his theoretical knowledge and practical skills, competency and skill.
Importance of Doctors
Besides saving lives, the importance of doctors goes far beyond that. They are the people who help to minimize patients pain, recover from a disease faster or learn to live with a disabling injury.
Preventive Medicine
Nobody wants to become sick, disabled or helpless. By promoting preventive medicine and keeping people healthy, doctors reduce the health gap between rich and poor populations as treating diseases can be expensive.
Stopping Pandemics
There's diseases that come through nature and even by human intent and wrongdoings. Black death and smallpox have wiped out millions of people throughout history; polio paralyzed thousands in the 20th century. By working to contain potential epidemics, doctors prevent disasters. Presently, our valiant doctors are fighting the Covid19 Pandemic.
Educating People
According to a survey in 2018 'Majority of people worldwide would trust a doctor or nurse more than any other source of health advice, including family, friends, religious leaders, or famous people." Doctors have the standing and the knowledge to push back against fake medical news. It's not just about teaching patients the real steps to staying healthy. Sometimes it's explaining that there is no cure and so no point to spending money trying to conjure one up.
