Thanks to the various pipeline-related works undertaken by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) at various locations, several areas in the city have been facing waters cuts for the last few weeks.

The areas worst hit by these cuts are Dadar, Matunga, Mahim, Bandra, Kurla and some parts of South Mumbai. These areas received 25 per cent less water than they normally get on a daily basis.
In the past two weeks, Bandra witnessed water cuts twice in areas like Pali Hill Road, ONGC and places near Lilavati Hospital. Locals from these areas had to order water tankers to take care of their daily water requirements.
The work of diversion of 1,200 mm dia New Tansa Water Main at Eastern Express Highway, Suman Nagar, Kurla (East), which falls in the L ward, was executed yesterday due to which Sion, Matunga and Dadar (East) areas did not receive water for the day. Also, there is a possibility of water cut in H/west ward, during which areas like Santacruz, Khar and Bandra may not receive water at all.
Complaints galore
Complaining about the civic body’s lackadaisical approach in completing the work, Bandra resident Shraddha Shelte said, “I am unhappy with the way the corporation is working. We tried giving written applications requesting them to carry out work during the nighttime, but to no avail.
This is the fifth time in the past two months that our area was subjected to water cuts. Surprisingly, the reason given by the officials is that of repairwork, which is never visible.” Dadar resident Aarti Kabre complained that the BMC never warns them about water cuts in advance.
“Everyone doesn’t read a newspaper. I had a crisis situation at home due to today’s water cut. I’ve been receiving less water for the last few days, for reasons best known to the municipal corporation,” Kabre said.

Commenting on the issue, Hydraulic Engineer R Bambale said, “This was just routine work and the cuts that have been taking place in Bandra have been due to problems within the pipelines. Hence we carried out the repairwork to resolve the issue. No further water cuts are expected during Diwali.”u00a0
