College joins hands with cops to put up board warning people about robberies on Vetal Hill

Taking note of the growing number of robberies on Vetal Hill, the ILS Law College together with the police have put up a board warning hill climbers about the presence of robbers.

A second year student from the college said: "The board gives details of the 34 criminals who rob people going for exercise on the Vetal hillocks. The appeal is made to students to inform the police if they come across any of these criminals on record."

Santosh Jaibhay, a rector in ILS law College said: "The board was put up as per police instructions; it is helping to lower down the instances of robbery, but I feel more should be done."

Shaila Daware, warden of ladies hostel at the ILS law College, said: "Our college hostel is safe and has round-the-clock security. Day and night guards ensure that the campus is incident-free."

DCP Dnyaneshwar Phadatare of Zone I said: "Special squads have been established to curb robberies. No incidents of robbery were reported in the past six months because of active patrolling, nakabandi and presence of plainclothes policemen."

Phadatare has appealed that "if citizens come across any of the suspected criminal, then they should immediately inform the police without wasting time."

Phadatare said: "We have observed that there is a tendency in victims to discuss it first with family and then only do they come to the police station to register the offence. We appeal to citizens to directly come to us so that we can save vital time on investigation."
