Authorities at Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) have finally heaved a sigh of relief. Beauty, the one-and-a-half-year-old tigress who was brought to Mumbai from Nagpur last month and had fallen ill due to change in climate change, is now on the road to recovery.

Condition stable
Sources from SGNP, on condition of anonymity, said, “This usually happens when an animal is transferred to another place, and Beauty was suffering from indigestion. Over the days, her health has improved, though she vomited a few times. But this is not a major concern as the veterinary doctor confirmed her condition is stable and she is on the road to recovery.” Earlier, the tigress had also shown signs of aggression when she was brought to Mumbai from Nagpur. She has been brought here to attract more tourists for the tiger and lion safari. The superintendent of Tiger and Lion Safari at SGNP was unavailable for comment.

Beauty’s case file
In 2013, Beauty was hit by a train and had fractured her hind limb bone in five places. However, her cubs didn’t survive the accident. The doctors had to insert a steel rod in her hind limb.  Beauty is named after the wife of Former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan’s wife Satvasheela, which also means beauty. She used to visit Beauty often.

Did you know?
The number of leopards that have died in captivity at SGNP in the last three months is four. Along with them, a lioness also died. The cause, according to authorities, was age related.
