"We will take to the streets if needed if no concrete measures are taken by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to check the pollution," BJP Mumbai president and MLA Ashish Shelar told reporters.
"Civic administration has so far not done anything concrete to tackle the Deonar fire. If this inaction continues, we will protest," he added. "We don't want the health of 1.40 crore Mumbaikars to suffer as a result of the pollution," Shelar added.
The fire at Mumbai's Deonar dump-yard could be a result of sabotage, BMC commissioner Ajoy Mehta had said yesterday. Mehta has also said that police have registered an FIR in this regard and that access to the dump-yard would be restricted. This is the second major fire to break out at Deonar in less than two months, causing widespread air pollution across the mega-polis.
